Overview
Friday can create, update, and query Linear issues and project milestones. To enable these capabilities you must connect the Linear integration to your account. The connection is a one‑time OAuth authorization; after it’s set up Friday will use the Linear integration automatically whenever a task requires it.Prerequisites
- A Linear workspace where you have an active account.
- Permission to authorize third‑party apps (available to all Linear users).
Step‑by‑Step Guide
Friday will automatically detect when you need to connect to Linear as part of your regular use.1
Start with a real Linear request
Tell Friday what you want to do in Linear. This gives Friday the context it needs to request access and complete the setup.Example prompts:
- “Create a Linear issue in the ENG team titled Implement user authentication with priority High.”
- “Update the Linear issue ENG-123 to change the status to In Progress.”
- “List all Linear issues assigned to me that are due this week.”
- “Every Monday at 9am PT, summarize all completed Linear issues from last week and post to Slack.”
2
Start the OAuth flow
If you haven’t authenticated into Linear previously, Friday will automatically detect that you need to go through a one‑time OAuth flow.
- Click Connect Linear.
- You’ll be redirected to Linear’s authorization page.
3
Authorize Friday
Review the page from Linear and click Approve to connect.Friday will request the following scopes:
- read – Read access to your Linear account data, including issues, projects, teams, users, cycles, and other workspace information.
- write – Write access to your Linear account, allowing Friday to create and update issues, modify statuses, assign users, add comments, update project details, and make other changes on your behalf.
4
Continue your task
After authentication, the task you set up in Step 1 will continue automatically, and Friday will now be able to interact with your Linear‑based requests.
5
Use Linear for future automations
Whenever you need Linear in a task, simply include the Linear action in your prompt. Because the integration is now ready, and Friday will handle the operation automatically; no further credential steps are required.
Security & Permissions
- Friday stores the OAuth token securely; the raw token is never exposed to you.
- The token is scoped only to the actions you approved (read and write access to your Linear workspace).
- Revoking the integration in Linear automatically disables the connection; you’ll need to reconnect to restore functionality.
Revoking Access
Note: By revoking access, any current and future workspaces set up with Friday will no longer be able to use Linear until you re‑authenticate.- In Friday, go to Settings → Integrations.
- Find the Linear app and click Remove.
